GROVE CITY HIGH SCHOOL
CROSS COUNTRY
INVITATIONAL
Oct 14, 2000
For the first time in Western PA High School Cross Country history (and
possibly the state), ChampionChip race timing technology was used to score
the finish line. Not only was the technology used to score the finish,
but it was used to collect split times from the 1 mile and 2 mile locations.
This undoubtedly was a Pennsylvania first.
Each runner had a computer chip attached to his or her shoe. Special mats
were placed at the 1 mile, 2 mile and finish line locations. As each runner
crossed each mat, his name (via his computer chip) and his time was automatically
recorded.
This split data is an invaluable tool for coaches and runners.
The Runner's High was pleased to provide this unique and high tech service
to this inaugural XC invitational.
