Annapolis Ten Mile

Anatomy of a Boondoggle

Less than 30 minutes prior to the start of the race, the announcer realized that his database wasn't matching some of the numbers of the runners.

He checked with the Timing Company, and his file matched theirs.

Both randomly checked names of runners on the starting line and found intermittent errors with names not matching numbers.

Yes, Houston, we have a problem!!

The race staff had the name data electronicly placed on the bib numbers by a reputable number company in South Carolina

Unfortunately, the file that was sent to the number company was not the same as what was sent to the timing company or announcer.

No one had access to the correct database until Monday when it was retrieved from the number company.

The Timing Company, Runner's High, effectively recorded the times for every bib number at the start, finish and most of the 5 mile split

There was absolutely no fault on the part of the chip technology, timing company, or equipment.

Until the correct database was inserted into the timing program, the wrong names would appear for many, many of the numbers.

So, nothing was posted on the website and only the overall awards were distributed on race day.

Age group awards will be mailed to the winners in a timely manner.

The race committee accepts the entire responsibilityof this snafu, but fortunately, it was correctable.

Please enjoy the results and accept our apology for the delay in the results.

We were and still are proud to be one of the first events in the country to utilize the new bib/tag system by MyLaps (formerly ChampionChip)

Please report any timing or database concerns to: smc@runhigh.com
